Is Kapsule Secure?

The first question that comes to everyone’s mind with a new social network or messaging app is, is it secure? Will my data be kept private and confidential? Can I trust the company behind the platform?

In this blog post we peel back the many layers of Kapsule’s security (without revealing too much) to get to the truth about the fastest growing social network for the future.

Is Kapsule Secure?
‍Yes. The first thing you’ll notice about Kapsule is the login screen. There are no username or password fields. In their place are signin and signup buttons to the authentication providers:  Google, Facebook, and Apple (for iOS). 

Passwordless authentication, which is a growing trend, is posed to be the new standard for social apps in the future. 

On the surface, this seems like it would deter new users from joining the app as you couldn’t join unless you had an identity from one of these providers. But if you do have an identity with one of these providers, you can simply sign in or sign up in a couple of taps without having another username or password to remember, reset, or be compromised. 

Using a 3rd party authentication service also helps reduce the amount of bots and alternate spam accounts that other social media platforms are plagued with. And as these platforms identify and remove bots and alternate accounts, those identities will no longer have access to their Kapsule account. This will lead to a more positive and meaningful experience on the Kapsule social network.

Will my data be kept private and confidential? 
‍Yes. Kapsule is hosted entirely on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), providing end-to-end security and privacy features built in. All data is encrypted in transit over 256 bit SSL, which cannot be viewed by a third party, and is the same level of encryption used by banks and financial institutions. All data is also encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption in one of Google’s data centers in the United States.

Google’s infrastructure is hosted in a fully redundant, secured environment, with access restricted to operations support staff only. This allows us to leverage complete data and access segregation, firewall protection, and other security features.

Can I trust the company behind the platform?
‍Yes. Kapsule is committed to protecting its customers, personnel, partners, and the company from illegal or damaging actions by individuals, either knowingly or unknowingly in the context of its established employment culture of openness, trust, maturity, and integrity.

Kapsule employs strict security standards and measures throughout the entire organization. Every team member is trained and kept up to date on the latest security protocols. We regularly undergo testing, training, and auditing of our practices and policies.
